AP Technician II

Title: AP Technician II

Location: Houston, TX

Duration: 6 months Contract

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

- Perform supportive duties, including slide consolidation, filling bulk fluids on IHC stainers, replenish instrument reagents, logging in cases for various departments, including chain of custody records, etc.
- Perform routine staining on various IHC platforms by following the established departmental protocols.
- Read and understand all SOPs related to the department and adhere to all rules and protocols
- Perform microtomy and tissue embedding on routine to complex tissues, such as fatty tissues, poorly fixed, etc.
- Perform slide preparation according to SOP guidelines
- Handle biological samples and potentially hazardous chemicals within EHS guidelines.
- Operate ancillary equipment related to staining and microtomy functions.
- Operate vendor software for IHC stainers and internal LIS and workflow software
- Communicates issues, as well as workflow related topics with management and peers when needed.
- Identify any problems that may adversely affect performance of staining results and immediately notify the management team.
- Perform QC for reagents and chemicals by using SOP's.
- Perform slide QC on routine cases, such as colon and breast panels.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of errors associated with instrument failures
- Prepare and maintain inventory of IHC antibodies
- Maintain laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning or performing scheduled equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certifications, as required.
- Complete all necessary assigned training, including company and departmental based modules
- Adhere to department rules and protocols as well as company regulations and policies.
- Other duties as assigned by Medical Laboratory Director or VP of Operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must have immunohistochemistry experience
- Minimum 1 years' experience as an IHC technician.
- Candidate must have current HT (ASCP) Certification or HTL (ASCP) Certification.
- Standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, manual manipulation, and lifting up to 15 pounds.
- All candidates must pass a color vision test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Experience with IHC Instruments: DAKO Autostainer, Leica Bond MAX and/or Ventana Benchmark Ultra.
