We are looking for expertise in the deeper layers of Android OS.

Specifically the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) in the context of audio signals. In this layer, acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) algorithms are used in order to have as little as possible issues from the non-Real Time behavior of Android OS. Please also refer to the article below.

We have encountered serious issues when implementing AEC algorithms at the Java/Native layer. Specifically, the microphone signals do not have a constant delay with respect to the loudspeaker signal that is fed into the algorithm as the AEC reference signal. For example, complete chunks of samples get lost as a result of which the delay can increase or decrease. Obviously, this has a serious impact to the performance of the AEC algorithm. The preference is challenge to combat the issue at its source, which appears to be in the HAL layer.

Concrete challenge:
- Guarantee of Real Time performance in the HAL layer
- Transfer of the AEC library into the HAL layer

In parallel, we have the desire to implement AEC algorithms as a Windows 10 Audio Processing Object (APO). Apart from potential issues with Real Time performance, additional challenges are the embedding into Windows 10 and appropriate interfacing with audio interface cards.
