ABOUT ALDEA GLOBAL
Aldea Global is an organization formed 22 years ago that groups more than 1,500 small and medium producers of northern Nicaragua. More than 30% of its members are women that are benefitted by credits provided by solidarity groups and individuals. The organization values include a focus on environment and gender equity. Aldea Global is sustained thanks to projects/businesses founded by cooperation agencies and micro-credit.
The association supports its members seeking new markets and commercialization/exportation opportunities and finding fair markets for its products such as special coffee, organic coffee and vegetables through technical assistance gender equity, environment community organization and advocacy.
THE VOLUNTEER'S ROLE
Placement Objectives:
Strengthen the business plan model for the collection, production and commercialization of the food processing plant, using a value chain and women´s inclusion approach.
Validate the food processing plant local and national market opportunities to produce and commercialize vegetables
Identify new business opportunities that allow an increment in the current capacities of the plant infrastructure and staff
Identify commercial strategic alliances that allow more access to markets.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree in agri-business; marketing or agriculture economy
ESSENTIAL PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND/COMPETENCIES:
3-5 years of experience in agro-marketing management preferably in vegetable value chain
Experience in market supply
Skills to transfer knowledge
Knowledge of common computer programs
DESIRABLE PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND/COMPETENCIES:
Experience in the Making Markets Work for the Poor strategy
TRAINING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Our training and support package covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, allowing you to enjoy a modest but healthy lifestyle while you volunteer abroad.
This includes:
Attendance at a Cuso International assessment day (candidates must cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs)
Travel and accommodation costs associated with pre-departure training
Return airfare and visa/permit (this includes a return flight in the case of a family emergency)
Coverage for required vaccinations, medications and comprehensive health insurance
Accommodation while overseas
A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed
Quarterly payments to support you in your placement
Modest support for accompanying partners
