Our client, a leading UK Central Government Department is seeking a Commercial Lawyer on a contract basis to work at their London office.

This is a 12 month contract and is paying £17.05 PAYE.

Key Tasks:

We have opportunities for advisory lawyers in HMRC, Solicitor's Office. The Office is an integral part of HMRC. It is headed by the General Counsel and Solicitor, Gill Aitken, and includes approximately 150 lawyers who advise on legal issues arising from HMRC's policy and operational work and conduct the Department's litigation. Our legal work is high quality and covers a broad range of subjects. In addition to tax, our advice covers a range of general public law issues for HMRC, including human rights, administrative law, freedom of information and commercial law. Our lawyers work in specialist teams handling specific areas of work. Each team tends to focus on either advisory work or litigation and the opportunities available in this trawl are for the former.

There are 2 opportunities to work in our Commercial and Procurement Team.

Lawyers in our Commercial team provide advice on

- Contractual disputes, negotiations and drafting of contracts
- Public procurement law and procedures
- Matters relating to Crown Copyright and other related intellectual property issues.

We are looking for intellectually capable, highly motivated lawyers with powerful oral and written communication skills. You will be working as part of a team of lawyers based in London or Manchester.

You need good Legal Professional Skills, including the following essential requirements:

- reliable legal judgement and appreciation of legal risk
- sound legal analysis of issues and making evidence based decisions
- working collaboratively and in partnership with clients as part of a multi-disciplinary programme team
- managing a quality service for clients

Commercial and public procurement experience is essential, although it is not necessary to have experience in all areas of the team's work as noted in the bullets above.

You need good IT skills (word/excel/outlook) and good organisational skills.
