Addictions Councellor
Type of Assignment: Full time, Contract
Length of Assignment: Until March 31, 2014, with possibility of extension.
Description of Project or Company/Organization:
Through our Health Service Support Contract with the Department of National Defence, Calian's healthcare professionals work in partnership with military healthcare teams providing primary care to today's Canadian Forces. Calian's healthcare teams provide healthcare services coast-to-coast at over 30 locations in Canada.
Job Description:
For many soldiers returning home, the psychological and social effects of operations may not become apparent for several years or months. Calian provides teams of civilian mental health professionals to help military members deal with the consequences of operational stress injuries; some of which include addictions, PTSD, depression, and anxiety.
The Addictions Counsellor functions as a member of the multi disciplinary mental health care team to provide services that promote wellness and provide timely interventions that support and empower Canadian Forces members to achieve their highest level of functioning. The Addictions Counsellor is responsible for performing addiction assessments, interventions, treatment planning and counselling of military members suffering addictions such as drug, alcohol and gambling.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- A degree in Social Work or Nursing from a recognized university
- Current registration with a professional College
- 2 years recent experience in performing a broad range of related activities in the field of addictions assessment, treatment planning and counseling
Desirable Qualifications:
- Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counsellor (ICADC) by the Canadian Addiction Counsellor Certification Federation (CACCF)
Special Conditions: - Work schedule is Monday to Friday, No evenings or weekends
