Projektbeschreibung

ACCELERATOR PHYSICIST OR ENGINEER (COLLIMATION)FUNCTIONS

As Accelerator Physicist in the BE-ABP- HSC section, you will contribute to the study of the collective effects and in particular of the beam-beam effects in the LHC, in the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) Upgrade, as well as in Future Circular Colliders under study.

Your main activities will consist of:

- Theoretical and simulation studies of the coherent and incoherent beam-beam effects and of the interplay of beam-beam forces with machine impedance and electron clouds in the presence of transverse feedbacks and non-linearities
- Analysis of experimental observations collected during past and future machine studies and during operation.
- Development and maintenance of the simulation codes COMBI, SixTrack, TRAIN required to simulate beam-beam effects in realistic machine configurations.
- Estimation of the potential intensity limitations and evaluation of possible cures or mitigation measures for the LHC and its upgrade and for Future Circular Colliders.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

PHD/doctorate in the field of Physics or Engineering (or equivalent).

THE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POST IS:

- Initial experience in a scientific environment preferably in the design, beam dynamics and/or operation of particle accelerators.
- Initial experience in collective effect theory and simulations (eg beam-beam and/or impedance-related effects).
- Experience with single-particle and multi-particle beam dynamics simulation codes.
- Initial experience on the maintenance and/or programming of large codes used for beam physics simulations and/or in massive numerical simulations techniques (eg parallel computing).
- Initial experience in beam-based measurement techniques and corresponding data analysis would be an asset.

THE TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POST ARE:

- Knowledge of accelerator physics theory.
- Knowledge of collective effects (beam-beam, space charge, cooling).
- Beam dynamics simulation: the knowledge of one of the following codes would be an asset: combi, sixtrack, beambeam3d,train, headtail,pyecloud..
- Accelerator performance analysis & optimization.
- Impedance computation: the knowledge of one of the following codes would be an asset: cst-particle studio, gdfidl, hfss.
