Academic Director of the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems

Eingestellt von Bio Careers

Projektbeschreibung

Ranked as one of the world's top 25 universities, the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with appointment in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems.

Candidates will have built an innovative program of research demonstrated by both an excellent publication record in top ranking journals in their chosen field, as well as a proven track record of undergraduate teaching, training of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a thriving, extramurally funded research program. They will also be expected to actively participate in development initiatives for UBC Farm in addition to directing the academic initiatives of the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems. Ideally, the candidate's research and teaching interests will align with the Centre's Academic Plan, Cultivating Place () with a particular focus on sustainable agro-ecosystems, sustainable food systems, or related areas.

The Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm strives to explore and exemplify how land, food, and community are brought together to create healthy and sustainable food systems. Located within walking distance of the Vancouver campus, the UBC Farm site is a 24-hectare mosaic of cultivated field areas, hedgerows, orchards, and successional forest stands that is host to both a full-scale working farm as well as children's garden projects, an Aboriginal food hub, a practicum in sustainable agriculture, and an array of research projects.

The Faculty of Land and Food Systems uses student-centered learning to educate new generations of scientists equipped to solve the most fundamental issues faced by society - those focused around human health, a sustainable food supply and the responsible use of finite land and water resources. UBC is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, which is regularly listed as one of the world's most liveable cities.

UBC hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply. We welcome applications from members of visible minority groups, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to engage productively with diverse communities. In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
