Context and introduction:

The specific objective of this work is to improve the web application and support the data collection process. This work requires a good understanding of technical and functional issues as well as creating, writing, reviewing, and modifying computer software mainly in Java. Your responsibilities will be, among other, encoding, debugging, testing and documenting software programs.

Description of tasks:

Maintain and evolve the existing prototype web system in order to be able to collect data from as many sources as possible. This may include the design and development of new modules as well as the maintenance of the existing modules.

Improve the code of the prototype web system in order to address data quality and performance issues.
-

Deploy, monitor and tune the operation of the system in order to achieve the best data gathering results.

Use and support the data transformation tools that address the quality of the gathered data.

Report writing, technical system documentation and user requirements elicitation.

Technical skills:

-

General IT experience in developing web applications and use of web content management systems
-

Experience on Java programming language and web application development (PHP, JSP Tomcat/servlet)

Knowledge of Linux operating principles and fundamental concepts of data management
-

Good knowledge of SQL and Oracle

Web services
-

Servlets
-

Good Knowledge of Ajax Web technologies (HTTP, XML, JavaScript, etc)

Working experience on programs for anonymous web access such as TOR or JAP

Working experience on Web scraping (web harvesting or web data extraction) technique and tools such as htmlunit

Working experience with web applications testing tools such as Selenium or Junit
