Senior Bioinformatician - Virus Genomics

Salary range from 29,750 to 37,525 per annum dependent on experience plus excellent benefits.

A position is available within this group for a Senior Bioinformatician for the ICONIC project. The ICONIC project aims to develop the tools for whole viral genome sequencing, and demonstrate utility for stratified medicine and infection control. ICONIC is one of three flagship Health Innovation Challenge Fund (HICF) projects on genomics and Infectious Diseases funded by the Wellcome Trust and Department of Health.

The postholder wlll be responsible for developing optimal tools to interrogate next generation sequence data generated from clinical samples of medical importance (including HIV, influenza, HCV and norovirus).

Essential Skills

* PhD in a relevant subject
* Degree in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology or equivalent
* Significant experience of research in infectious diseases
* Experience of dealing with large gene sequence datasets and familiarity with software packages for developing phylodynamic outputs.
* Experience using Unix/Linux operating systems
* Competent Perl, Python, Ruby, or Java programmer
* Attention to detail
* Good at problem solving
* Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, with appropriate formal or informal presentations
* Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships both within and outside a team
* Ability to work effectively within a team, contributing to discussions and disseminating knowledge and information
* Ability to train or instruct colleagues
