Principal Engineer Product Safety Engineer

Principal Engineer Product Safety Engineer role with leading Defence organisation based near Glasgow. Working with Unique projects on 6 month contract, earning up to £31ph/Ltd.

We are seeking two Principal Product Safety Engineers to join a unique Defence project Product Safety Team.

Purpose of role:

To support the Chief Engineer and Product Safety Manager in planning, coordinating and effective delivery of Product Safety. Specifically to review ITT and GFX Responses to ensure PS requirements are met.

A wide knowledge of Product/Ship Safety management practises and a good understanding of quality management, configuration control and audits would be ideal.

The post also requires a high level of Microsoft Office competency and an ability to use and understand new IT systems and databases upon appropriate training.

The Individual - Formal degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience would be beneficial.

Key Technical Skills

* Competent with applying formal hazard/safety assessment techniques and methods.
* Experienced in risk management, this will include hazard identification, analysis, risk assessment and risk mitigation.
* Confident with assisting engineers develop strategies for hazard removal and risk reduction.
* Able to draft safety assessment/case reports.
* Appreciation of functional/software hazard requirements.
* Appreciation of the supply chain process for managing Product Safety requirements.
* Experience and knowledge of LCM/CADMID, its requirements and application.
* Knowledgeable with respect to implementation and delivery of Product Environmental Engineering activities.
* Competent with applying formal hazard/safety assessment techniques and methods such as:
* HAZID (Hazard Identification)
* HAZOPS (Hazard and Operability studies
* FHA (Functional Hazard Analysis)
* SWIFT (Structured What-If Technique)
* FTA/ETA (Fault/Event Tree Analysis
* FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) etc

Major Tasks and Activities

Review ITT and GFX Responses to ensure PS requirements are met.
Organise and facilitate Project HAZIDs and review meetings.
Progress PS hazards, risks and associated mitigations, contributing to the development of the hazard log and the maturity of information contained within.
Assist TAs with deriving and capturing PS ITT pack requirements.
Work with the Platform and Combat Systems teams in collating adequate PS related evidence to support the safety case.
Assist with drafting the project Systems Design Safety Assessments (SDSAs).
Industry Knowledge

A wide knowledge of Product/Ship Safety management practices would be beneficial.
