Inward Investment Officer

Annual Salary - £28,500 - £50,400

Full Time - 37 Hours per Week

12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Based in Chelmsford County Hall

The role of Essex County Council's Enterprise Team is to contribute to the development of an internationally competitive economy for Essex where businesses of all sizes are able to start up, innovate and grow and which is a location of choice for inward investment.

The Enterprise Team works across a number of themes to maximise opportunities for businesses in Essex. This is expressed in three Strategic Aims:

- To attract successful inward investment delivering value for the Essex economy
- To secure the retention and growth of new and existing companies in Essex
- To encourage and assist companies in Essex to trade internationally

Our Inward Investment activity, INVEST Essex, aims to promote Essex as an outstanding business destination, and to enable existing and potential investors to make the most of our strategic location, thriving business environment and quality of life.

Our Inward Investment offer is proactively promoted to target geographies, sectors and companies informed by our market research, and our comprehensive service provides confidential advice and practical support to companies wanting to establish or grow within the county.

The role of an Inward Investment Officer is a vital contribution to the success of the programme, and involves extensive contact with businesses, business organisations, intermediaries, service providers and the public sector at a high level, and end-to-end management of the client project life cycle.

Central to the role is the ability to understand the issues which are critical to business decision makers and to help to build and communicate compelling propositions and solutions which deliver tangible business benefits for clients, leading to new investment and growth in Essex.

The post holder must be very client and results focused and tenacious, with the ability to develop often creative solutions for clients. A high level of communication and interpersonal skills will be required as well as the ability forge excellent partnerships with other organisations.

Working within the Inward Investment Team, the role will involve engaging with a range of potential and existing foreign and UK owned businesses, agents and intermediaries to help build and maintain a strong pipeline of inward investment prospects, and to convert these into projects and inward investment successes that result in investment, retention and growth in the Essex economy.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

- A relevant degree or equivalent by appropriate experience
- Knowledge and experience in a business, economic development or skills related function
- Knowledge of the Essex economy and key sector
- Experience in successful project management including activity and project reporting
- Effective at using professional networks and working with private and public sector partners
