Job Title: HR Advisor (FTC 12 months)

Location: Thurrock Council

Salary: £23,160 - £30,228

Hours: Monday - Friday 8:45am - 17:15pm

Your role, as a HR Advisor, is to provide high quality HR Advice to Thurrock Council, to help develop and implement the Corporate HR Framework and to ensure that advice and actions are consistent with the Council`s aim of becoming an Employer of Choice.

Your duties will include:

- To work with colleagues to achieve service plan objectives/targets.
- To assist in the development and implementation of organizational Development Policies and Procedures to accommodate the needs of the department in line with the Corporate Agenda
- To build effective relationships with all Human Resource Service receivers including elected Members, School Governing bodies, Employees, Trade Unions, National Employer`s Organisations and other appropriate contacts and networks.
- To provide a comprehensive, high quality and efficient human resource advisory service to customers, ensuring that management needs are met within corporate policy goals.
- To provide advice on complex employment issues including Disciplinary, Grievance, Capability, Equalities issues, TUPE transfer, Redeployment and Redundancy issues, Sickness (OH), Absence, Maternity issues and other issues relating to human resources in order to resolve case work efficiently.
- To assist/lead on consultation and negotiation arrangements
- To prepare and present management reports as appropriate.
- To actively promote the Council`s Equal Opportunity Policy and Diversity Strategy and observe the standard of conduct which prevents discrimination taking place.
- To ensure full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 etc., the Council`s Health and Safety Policy and all locally agreed safe methods of work.
- To fully understand and be aware of the commitment to Section 17 of the `Duty of Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to prevent crime and disorder`.

Essential skills / qualifications / experience for the role

- Excellent communication skills - both oral and written
- Ability to weigh up various options and give sound and clear advice
- Knowledge of and commitment to equal opportunity/Diversity strategies
- Human Resource enabling experience
- Providing a high quality Human Resources service to senior management
- Consultation & negotiation processes with trade unions
- An understanding of the principals of Equal Opportunities

Experience of working within a Social Care setting would be desirable however this is not an essential requirement.
