Job Title: HPC Administrator (Administrator, Linux)

Purpose

To provide a reliable HPC service to the Aerodynamics department to deliver CFD analyses for the generation of the race car performance.

Duties of the HPC Administrator (Administrator, Linux):

1. Liaise with hardware and software solution to ensure that support issues are resolved swiftly.
2. Develop software solutions and/or scripts to maximise the efficient use of our storage and ensure that key results are available rapidly to the aerodynamic development team.
3. Liaise with and work with suppliers on the implementation of new hardware purchases into our current environment.
4. Support our aggressive hardware upgrade programme including OS, Pro-Pack, DMF, CXFS and back-ups to enable us to exploit the latest features provided by our suppliers.
5. Provide Linux administrative skills to the entire HPC environment and support the integration of the HPC estate with company's IT infrastructure including remote graphics capabilities.
6. Manage any hardware and software issues that arise with our technical partner.
7. Keep abreast of latest HPC developments and provide necessary support to make informed decision on future HPC purchase.
8. Maintain our HSM and its deployment for the storage needs of the aerodynamics department.

Knowledge and Experience of the HPC Administrator (Administrator, Linux):

1. Knowledge and experience of Linux, Unix, scripting (bash, python), NFS, CXFS and DMF.
2. Knowledge and experience of HPC hardware including clusters, storage, archiving and InfiniBand/NUMALink.
3. Knowledge and experience with process virtualization using cpuset, cgroups, LXC or Docker.
4. Good understanding of techniques for system & application performance monitoring, analysis and tuning.
5. Post-graduate qualification in a physical science and/or computing.

Support:

1. The HPC estate is required to operate on a 24x7 basis. Aerodynamicists may need to report problems outside normal hours and these should be tackled on a best endeavours basis consistent with the employee's contract. If this is not possible the CFD Hardware Specialist should escalate to his line manager.
2. For the purposes of maintenance of the HPC estate it is envisaged that a period of typically 3 days during shutdown will be used for this to minimise impact on production work. The CFD Hardware Specialist should therefore liaise with his line manager before booking holidays in this time period.
