3 months (with potential to extend)
Up to £400 - £500 per day
North London

My client, a leading Public Sector organisation, is seeking to recruit a Head of Health and Safety to join their technical division onsite in North London. As a Head of Health and Safety, you will be required to lead corporate and property health and safety, ensuring that compliance and statutory, regulatory and internal policy requirements are met. The ideal candidate will have a background in: Property Services, Children's Services, COSHH and Construction safety including CDM as well as a demonstrated track record of leading Health and Safety projects.

The post holder is required to comply with all Health & Safety at work policies, procedures and guidelines. The post holder must look after their own health, safety and welfare and be mindful of other persons who may be affected by their acts. Employees must co-operate and comply with management instructions regarding Health and Safety issues and report all accidents, incidents and problems as soon as practicable to their line manager or another senior manager.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

*Advising senior management on the implications of current and emerging health, safety and welfare legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating actions plans to ensure compliance across the department
*Developing and implementing the initial requirements for Health and Safety policies
*Investigating the circumstances and causes of accidents and taking necessary steps to prevent a recurrence
*Proactively issuing guidance in order to promote Health and Safety awareness and compliance at all levels
*Ensuring the effective communication, understanding and implementation of new Health and Safety policies
*Supporting line managers in reaching complex or high risk decisions on a case-by case basis by providing expert Health and Safety advice
*Supplying advice on a wide range of Health and Safety issues at all levels of the organisation.

Key Knowledge and Skills

*Minimum of 3 years experience of working in a management role within a Health & Safety Service, including experience of implementing new and creative solutions to maximise performance. Will be managing a team of up to 9 direct staff.
*Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health.
*Demonstrated track record in leading and delivering Health & Safety projects.
*NEBOSH Diploma Level 6 or equivalent.
*Experience of working with trade unions.
*Experience of using Microsoft Office and specialist IT packages.
*Precious experience of managing budgets using financial control mechanisms.
*Effective communicator up to senior level.
