We currently require a Hairdresser at Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre on a Fixed Term Contract from June 2013 for 6 months. This role is 40 hours per week but will require flexibility with regards to shifts.

Yarl`s Wood is an immigration removal centre (IRC) run under the Detention Centre Rules 2001. It is situated on the outskirts of Clapham, Bedfordshire and was opened in November 2001.

The hairdresser is responsible for providing a hairdressing service to the residents and will work closely with the regimes team to ensure that an appropriate service is provided.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

- To provide a hairdressing service at the times and places stated in the agreed daily schedule.
- Ensure that the appropriate staff are advised of your presence at your designated place of work.
- Treat all residents with dignity and respect regardless of age, ethnic group, religion, sex, sexual orientation or language.
- Maintain appropriate records of tools and equipment in line with Managers Rules.
- Establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with residents.
- To manage and support staff for which the post holder is responsible, in line with the sickness absence policy and other relevant procedures, ensuring effective use of staff resources.
- To develop and maintain effective relations with the customer and external organisations as required.
- To contribute to good practice across the whole business, striving for continuous improvement at all times.
- To take ownership and responsibility for your own continuous professional development.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Hairdressing
- Previous experience in Hairdressing
- Experience of working with people from diverse religious & cultural backgrounds
- Ability to work on own initiative

Please note this role requires an Enhanced CRB and Counter Terrorist Checks. The position is also exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. All applicants must have unlimited leave to remain in the UK.
