Design Manager-Short Contract

Their reputation has been developed over the past 40 years since their inception, during which time they have expanded and delivered significant prestigious landmark projects.

Currently they have been awarded a selection of exciting contracts in Scotland where they require a highly skilled individual with construction and design management experience. 

The Role

Due to continued growth they have a position for a Design Manager to join their Operations Team in Edinburgh on a fixed term contract lasting until September 2015.
Based in Edinburgh on a fortnightly basis you will report to the Technical Manager assisting with coordination of designs, design issues and programming of design work.
Other duties will include:
Monitor design costs on projects ensure proposed design is within budget allowable.
Providing design advice e.g. on building regulations, fire protection, etc.
Attend meetings re: design and prepare for such meetings accordingly.
Prepare design plans and complete them in accordance with Q.A. Procedures.
Keep adequate records e.g. RFI responses and keep flow of information moving.
Develop adequate design information, detail design ideas, sketches and interpretation to allow the Design Technician teams to produce accurate working drawings that are in accordance with the client&rsquos expectation.

The Person

It is anticipated that the ideal candidate will have:

3 - 5 years previous experience in a main contractor building discipline.
A 3rd level qualification in a Construction or Architectural related subject.
Good working knowledge of AutoCAD, UK building regulations, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Experience in the design co-ordination of construction projects with the ability to think rationally and resolve design problems.

Good people management skills are required in order to manage and motivate a project design team to work under pressure and to deadlines.

Willing to travel to site when required.
