Business Analyst; Bioinformatician/Research Informatics Specialist, biology, research data
Responsibilities/Requirements:
Our client a major pharmaceutical company is looking for a degree-educated Bioinformatician/Research Informatics Specialist with an excellent understanding of biology, research data, and lab workflows, as well as strong experience in software engineering and informatics, to join the multi-disciplinary Biology Research Informatics Group. Work location will be Basel, Switzerland.
The successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with biologists and bioinformaticians to build end-to-end informatics solutions which meet the research workflow and data needs. You will work with the scientists to understand their lab processes, data flow, and research data in order to identify their informatics needs. As part of a global team, you will gather requirements to build and deliver enterprise informatics solutions and/or implement tools to address immediate needs.
Furthermore, you will lead small to medium size projects and work together with a software engineering team to enhance and integrate the internal Informatics systems or build new systems to meet the research needs.
BSc in Biology, Computer Science and/or Bioinformatics or a similar discipline
Extensive experience working in a biomedical research environment, either in a pharmaceutical, academic or biotech organization, with excellent understanding of the target discovery (identification and validation) and (biologics) drug discovery process and data
Experience in supporting research projects, in fields such as pharmacology, pathology, antibody screening or cellular screening, with informatics solutions
Excellent understanding of the respective research lab processes and their informatics needs
Proven capability interacting with biologists in a complex global research organization
Strong customer service attitude and solution orientation with ability to respond to changing needs and priorities quickly and efficiently
Excellent understanding and practical experience integrating enterprise components to deliver end-to-end solutions for specific research processes
Experience with rapid prototyping and agile software development methodologies
Knowledge of web architecture and technologies
Knowledge of and experience with SQL and relational databases
Experience implementing and consuming web services (SOAP/REST)
Proven ability to work independently and/or as part of a team
Fluency in English (oral/written)
